DISC GOLF AUSTRALIA® ‘#1 In Australia’ |

|
It’s a question that people ask frequently and the answer is simply this:- “It’s the game of golf played in a similar format to ball golf but using plastic discs instead of balls & clubs, and a piece of equipment referred to as a disc catcher or target, which takes the place of a green, hole and bunkers.”
Discs are made from various quality plastics are 23cms in diameter, aerodynamic & ergonomic in design giving varied flight characteristics along with hand and finger control.
A target / disc catcher (see photo INNOVA Pro DISCatcher® here) is a pole like structure with a wheel arrangement at the top which supports one or more rows of chains (18 to 20 strands average). These are connected to a single sliding ring on the centre support pole. This gives a cone shape to the chain arrangement (As can be seen below).
Below the chains is the basket which is slightly bigger than the upper support wheel and approx 200mm deep.
Many of us will remember when we were kids there was a game called ‘Frisbee® Golf.’ It came about in the late 1940’s and slowly evolved in various formats until, in the middle 1970’s and early 80’s when a significant number of important changes took place and the game of ‘Disc Golf’ proper (as we know it today), came of age.
Installation of the first permanent Disc Golf course Ed Headrick invents the chain style disc catcher and sets up the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Dave Dunipace (of INNOVA Discs) invents the modern Golf Disc.
